Job Responsibilities

This position provides administration and oversight for the workers’ compensation program and ensures compliance with worker’s compensation laws, regulations, insurance coverage, policies and procedures which includes meeting best practice outcomes in Oregon, Washington and Idaho, with an emphasis in active claims’ management within the Washington Department of Labor & Industries system.

• Facilitates the entire workers’ compensation claims management process from initial report through claim closure.
• Actively assess, evaluate and mitigate risks with respect to employee workers’ compensation.
• Consult with employees during the claims process to effectively manage the claim, with the main goal to return the employee to their job with the least amount of delay and unnecessary costs.
• Collaborate with Human Resources staff to manage workers’ compensation claims and other associated issues, including medical leave.
• Proactively manage workers’ compensation claims in the most medically beneficial and cost effective manner.
• Work in partnership with various parties connected with a claim, including but not limited to attorneys, investigators, insurers and State agencies.
• Work closely with regional management staff in managing their employee’s workers’ compensation claims.
• Identify problems and opportunities for improvement; develop strategies and recommendations to reduce the number of workers’ compensation claims, the applicable premium modifier and the costs of those claims.
• Advanced Comprehensive working knowledge of Oregon, Washington and Idaho’s workers’ compensation systems; specifically Washington State industrial insurance compensation systems, aspects of injuries and occupational diseases of health care workers within a large group dental practice, disabilities and treatment, vocational rehabilitation processes for injured/ill workers in each state; light duty, legal issues (e.g. ADA, Reasonable Accommodation, discrimination, employment practices and disability insurance systems). Strong written & oral communication, interpersonal counseling, conflict resolution, problem-solving and regulatory/analytical skills required.
• Documentation management, consumer relations, medical staff and administration procedures and structure and strong clinical knowledge of medical and psychological procedures and interventions.
• Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn OSHA regulations pertinent to health care workers and large group dental practice employer.
• Experience in loss control, injury prevention, and wellness programs.

Job Qualifications

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field and 5 years’ experience administering workers’ compensation programs case management OR equivalent combination of education and experience which will provide the ability to perform the essential functions of the position. Multi-State Workers Compensation Insurance experience, experience in healthcare and Washington L&I experience preferred.

Licenses, Certifications and Registrations
This position requires a driver’s license, a good driving record and the ability to travel throughout Oregon, Washington and Idaho. Current State Workers’ Compensation Claims Examiner Certification preferred.

Physical Requirements:
The work is primarily performed while sitting and/or standing, but will require occasional walking, bending, stooping and carrying light items such as papers, books, or other supplies. The incumbent uses a computer and other standard office equipment to complete tasks.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
•OSHA, EPA, Labor & Industries and DOT regulations and requirements.
•ADA, Reasonable Accommodation and Social Security Disability Insurance.
•Applicable Human Resource policies and procedures.
Skill in:
•Administering Washington L & I, and OSHA record keeping.
•Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc.).
•Strong verbal and written communication.
Ability to:
•Be highly organized, a self-starter, and work with minimal supervision.
•Work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment.
•Analyze raw data, draw conclusions and develop recommendation and operationalize.
